week 16

Overall, I have enjoyed writing my blogs, I have become more confident in my writing because of this assignment. Without having a lot of structure, I would have to say I was lost and confused on what to write about for most of the entries. I used collaboration by reflecting on AnaKaren, and Klaudia blogs for ideas. I also reflected on their blogs because I want to make sure I was writing my blog like I should. I was looking at their ideas to have a better understanding of how to write a blog, I have never written a blog post before this class. My favorite blog that Ana wrote was her blog about Black Lives Matter. She wrote this blog so well and it gve me a better understand of this movement. I loved Karen blog about Joe Biden. I liked how she brought a light side to such a negtive electation, this Presidential race had so much hate from both side. I was really liked reflecting on Karen's blog was reading her thoughts on the guest speaker about anorexia. While we both wrote about this I like how she had different take aways than I did.

These blogs allowed me to grow as learned because toward fifth blog post or me fourth I did not need to look for help with ideas from my friend’s blog. I had the confidence that I was writing the blogs correctly. I enjoyed having the freedom of writing about anything we wanted to try writing about. I tried to tie in some class topics to my blog like Open Sources Software was on topic I addressed in my blog. I also went over problems I saw on campus that were related to class readings. I went into detail about how freedom of speech is called to question on our campus. This was looking into what  Brother Dean is lecturing students about on campus. I also wrote about hash tags and how they have a positive effect on making movements heard. I looked into the #DeafTalent this is something that a lot of people look past and do not understand issue behind the problems. Over all I liked to this class and I liked writting the blogs.

Thank you,
Noelle Woolway

Community of Practice

Community of practice is a group of people who have the same concerns, common problems, share a passion, education, and expertise. This is where a group of people have collegial relationship. However, the community of practice are not a confined by institutional or a large affiliation. These are potential values that have extended beyond the boundaries of any single organization. We see these groups formed online spaces. I personally have not been apart of it but I know people have benefit from the online forums. One website people have formed community of practice are on reedit. Or an even simple place is when people all comment on a post.

Reddit is a website that is open to everyone, and has very little limits. Reddit is a way users can find a vases amount of news article on almost any topics. User vote article or post to be bumped to the top of the page. One of the users is sending a pizza; help can send anyone a pizza. You post a why you need it and other user come together and help one other. This is a goal of not know each other but they want to help someone else. When a group all bumps an article up they have the same passion of the written pieces.

Another example is when a group of people all comment on a picture. This is seen in a celebrity’s post, when the celebrities fans like and comment on the post. Some followers will come together to share the passion for the same person. For instance when Taylor Swift post a picture on Instagram, you can see her fans posting comments and talking with each other. Her fans have educated themselves on her life, music, and also everything she. They will comment about how much they love her. These fans may have never met, but all share the same passion.

Week 15

Week 15

My group used the hash tag #HydroFlaskGivesBack. This was created to educate people that own Hydro Flask that at the bottom of the water bottle is a code. With the code the company will give 5% back to the charity of your choices. All the buy has to do is create a HydroFlask.com, add the code and pick the charity they would like the money to go. Hydro Flask has chosen many different charities to pick to donate to choose from. This was created because of the lack of owners of the Hydro Flask water bottles did not know that they could do this. Here are the tasks we made:
1.              Use the hashtag #HydroFlaskGivesBack on social media to raise awareness
2.              If you own a Hydro Flask, register it on the website and choose one of the 12 charities to donate to.
3.              Give a gift that keeps on giving and share a Hydro Flask with family and friends and encourage them to #GiveBack
4.              Post a picture with your Hydro Flask and caption it #HydroFlaskGivesBack and write why you donated to that charity. also include the website https://www.hydroflask.com/donate so it can be easily reached.
5.              Encourage a conversation outside of social media to help raise awareness for the cause and the charity you are passionate about.

This educational movement was created on the website PassTheBaton.com. I have never used this site before or anything like this. These sites were created to form new ideas and movements like this one. Users form a cause they are starting then add task for other get involved in. The task can be other users become informed. This cite was a little hard to navigate at first. My group did not upload the task in the right section. I think one thing that be most help full is when you first sign up a little tutorial should be added to relate how to go about using Pass The Baton.

How Smart is a Smart Phone?

I struggle with the generation to come with the use of telephones. People today video tape everything and go straight for the phone. However, people do not help the cause if they are video taping what is happening. I agree that phones can be useful to share what happens and it is helpful in court. It makes things very black and white since there is hard evidence to prove a claim. But in the video below, there are two girls fighting over politics. I find it troubling that there are two people who could have help to break this up but did nothing. The only action done is that one chooses to video tape it. The other SAT there with his back to the fight. They both did nothing to stop or help the girls during the fight.

On Snapchat, a new update was made where it has added news pieces for live stories. Anyone can add their own information on news around the same topic. For example, there was an attack on Ohio State and Snapchat had a story where user can upload anything to this. This Story was then updates of what is happening that anyone can add anything to. People we adding video clips of their opinions. This is not a good source of news because its not fact checked or really filtered in any form. People are showing clips of the person who saw and gave his side of the story. Because the clip was so short, 10 seconds to be exact, it came off as racial profiling.  People can get the wrong idea of what happened through these stories since they are just glimpses of the real thing.

Both the video of the fight and updates on the school stabbing is a problem since the only thing people are doing is just going straight to their phones. Instead of helping solve the problem they are creating a bigger problem by spreading false media. This is due to not being professional journalist. The phone has become a problem as well as the need to share everything. Just think of how people could have done better things than just posting videos.

#Deaftalent

A tending hash tag that came a cross is #Deaftalent. I do not use Twitter because I do not see the point, for my personal use. However for this hash tag I think it is a great tool. While this movement is not as popular as it was a year ago the issue is still a problem. The purpose is to stop hearing- abled actors and actresses playing deaf roles. However, the movement went passed Hollywood and turned into empowering deaf people to speak out about their personal talents.  Out of 1,000 children two or three will be deaf. From the few children who are deaf, 90% of them are born into a hearing family. This makes the deaf community extremely small.

However, with the creation of the hashtag more deaf people have collaborated over social media. Social media has allowed them to form groups online. People have become more accepting of the deaf culture with assistance from popular media. While it has changed for the better, there is still a lot that need to change.

On Twitter, users are still posting and using the hashtag; the form #Deaftalent users and creator does not use it as much as when it first started. Many deaf and hearing people connect on Twitter with the hash tag, and the conversations are organized with it as well. Videos and links have also helped branch out the deaf community and show what deaf talent really is.

There are few deaf people who have made into Hollywood. But the two that have been just a give abdicate for this movement is Nyle DiMarco and Marlee Matlin. Nyle DiMarco is a model who shared his stories on America’s Next Top Model. Hearing people got to watch him live in the hearing word and watched how he struggled and overcame his aversions.  Marlee Matlin is a Academy Award winner for Best Actress and has also won more awards for her work. Both use social media to showcase the struggle for deaf people in Hollywood and how hard it is to be deaf. Nyle DiMarco proves to the world deaf people can do ANYTHING—he was even on Dancing with the Stars!
