Collective Intelligence by Robert Bononno. This is a book and the section I read was page 13-19. While Bononno made several key points, I found this informative text to be dry and inaccessible. He went into detail about collective intelligence and shared his views on it. While I learned much from his book I just felt, at times, it was too repetitive. A term I learned was ultimate recipient of collective intelligence. I now understand that collective intelligence is designed for the individual rather than the group. In this picture the women are testing to find a cure for cancer. The women are working together along with many others. Collective Intelligence is the broadest idea of people working together.

Social Network Nextdoor Moves To Block Racial Profiling Online by Aarti Shahani. This article goes over what the site Nextdoor does and how the new CEO has changed it. Nextdoor is a social networking site that neighbors use to update each other on what is going on in their community. Users can upload a post to the site stating when they saw a crime and what the person looked like. The article talks about how the company in Oakland went to the CEO because of the racial profiling that was happening. The CEO and the company made changes to where you have to add more details about the perpetrator to stop the racial profiling. However, the amount of detail required by the site (color of shoes, shirt they were wearing, etc.) does not allow for reports of crimes where not much was seen. This begs the question, 'Is it fair to bar information simply because it is not wholly formed?' I was asking this to myself and I thought any news/information would be helpful. However the police spoke out in a statement saying that the new changes to the site are now more useful and helps keep the community safer. I thought the article was interesting because I have never heard of a social media site stopping users from posting. The edits people had to make I agreed with and I believe that more social media sites should use filters and editing so their users don't over-share as well as miscommunicate since this leads to issues such as racial profiling. While Nextdoor edits what users can post, Facebook allows you to post anything. This woman's profile shows that the information on Facebook is limitless and can often be misinterpreted when it comes to opinions in posts.
